Volume 4 and still going strong. I'm really pleased with this series. Not much to really say... just some great music the way I hear it. "Push Push" is an all time favorite... and I think my delay mix does it justice. That Rob G blew me away last year when I heard the original on a Ron C mix. Just listen, enjoy and comment if you can.

The third installment in my Sufferation series. This one adds the element of my (musical) lust for Ron Hardy. After a mournful ly uplifting Scratch Perry track and some light AM G Funk, I try my hand at a rough and nasty Hardy style edit of the Pointer Sisters. Three oddly placed Xacto cuts later... and the vocal core of the song comes in briefly... only to be obliterated by a wash of dub and feedback.
Kiddus I - Crying Wolf-Nyahbingi Take The Jacka and 12 Gauge Shotie - Sunshine Pointer Sisters - How Long (Nattymari's Music Box Re-Edit) Arab on Radar - My Mind is a Muffler 2 One One - Real Muthafuckas Cellski f/ C- Bo - Murder on My Mind BozSkaggs - Lowdown (Slowed) Pluxus - Business Morwell Unlimited Meets King Tubby - Morwell's Star Isley Brothers - Machine Gun Paul Masse - Time N' Cherry Wine
I'm going to officially declare this next phase of mixes a series... and dub them the SUFFERATIONMIXES. Yep... basically, we're looking at the same selector status... but a different way of listening to the tracks I select.
My trick bag will be one from that rises, like a murky phoenix, from the ashes of Black Ark studio. Dark and heavy dub... overbearing bass.... mud and cosmic funk. I love it... I love the beginning of MAGGOT BRAIN... those little droplets of multitap before George tastes the maggots in the mind of the universe.
Sure I'm using filters... but there's also a lot of manual dubbing here. Most of these tracks have been hand manipulated... not that it matters. It's what your ears hear, right?
Shock G - Baby, You OK? (Slowed) Herman Dune - I Do the Crabwalk In Flagranti - Reputation or Notoriety Mon-o-Phone - Drive Sonny Rollins - Shout It Out Beachwood Sparks - Butterflys (Singing and Sleeping) PinoD'Angio - Ma Quale Idea Dillenger - Mickey Mouse Crab Louse Grand Duchy - Break the Angels Lightnin Rod - Sport (Slowed) 4 St. Orchestra - Scientific (Hurting Dubb) Cotton Jones - Some Strange Rain
My Myspace page proudly states my obvious heroes. Among them (and at the top of the list) are Larry Levan, Robert Davis (DJ Screw) and King Tubby. Pioneers of the sonic kingdom. Men blessed with the gift to make music a very personal journey.
I couldn't even begin to consider myself in their league... I just hope I do them justice. Each, for the most part unknowingly, fulfilled the dream of my uber hero, William S. Burroughs. Taking mass marketed media and warping it to fit their own, slightly sinister, goals. The result is often termed psychedelic... although that is a perception based upon outside objectivity.
Any expression so intimate will seem strange to outside ears. A different language spoken on a bus. A sign, printed in an alphabet never seen before. It seemed bizzare in the mid-60's, but do Brian Wilson's late compositions really sound so strange now? We've heard so many sounds influenced by them, that we've grown accustomed to it... and now we simply hear the beauty that was always there.
My heroes played their music the way THEY wanted to hear it. Thankfully, others wanted to hear it the same way. They were not attempting to make strange, trippy drug music... they were just trying to express to the world what they heard. These blog mixes have helped me to do that. I've reached a point where my mixes have become extremely personal.
I only hope that they touch a few others as well... and possibly inspire them the way Robert, Larry and Tubbs do me.

I hate this East Coast cold, dude. Seriously! I hate the fashion and music and probably the people out here. I wonder why L.A. has the reputation for being bitter, icy and heartless.
Lucky number seven in my serious of unwanted trash. I cheated a little and threw in some stuff I wanted too... so it's more like 3/4 Septritus. Still... it was an excercise in making that which don't fit, fit.
Why the hell did I hold on to that Dosh track for like 2 months??? It's so fricking sweet!
Juvelen - Watch Your Step Katey Red - Stupid Spoon - Well Alright Shock G - Gotchoo (Chilled) Little Claw - Ice Age Dosh - Rock It to the Next Episode Dillenger - Leave the Arena Killer Mike - My Life Kane and Abel (Slowed) Jeremy Warmsley - If He Breaks Your Heart Safeashome - 1987 198X MF Doom - Ballskin
Another early night before another early morning. me love dub. Me love dub.

I just banged my thumb (which looks almost perfect now) and I think I now realize the full meaning of "white light going messing up my mind." Anyway... here's a magical mix for all you members of the D.A. Guaranteed to keep the Death Eaters away!
Easy selector! This one is pretty dubby... albeit not strictly a dub mix. I'm freaking hooked on the slowed Baile track that starts it off... and pretty much committed to further freaking with that Paul Simon beat.
Had a nice day with family yesterday and a verbal war with the fiance. Not looking forward to six more days of slavery... but my little cyber lives help ease the tension. Blogging... two consecutive games of harvest moon and my own household ranching chores keep a restless mind busy.
Jean Al Nippon and Orgasmic - Alice (Slowed) Riley All Stars - Staga Dub Lucy Mercier Descloux - Aya Mood Mr. Partridge - Madhattan Lullatone - The Bedtime Beatbox Tape - Beams Paul Simon - 50 Ways to Leave your Lover (Slowed and Archived) This is Deer Country - Jackie Sunken Foal - Without Any Thought Soguymo Acacia Band - Hangul Alphabets Eagle and Talon - Tight Score Max Cooper - Harmonisch Serie (Slowed) Tight Wayz - Tempers Flair (Slowed)
This mix sounds a little different, and totally transports me back about 15 years. A lot of the songs are new, but somehow it triggers memories from back in those days. A little combination of twee little shoegaze and psych drifting into some IDM heavier than what I normally present on this blog. It features longer songs and nary a pop or hip hop song, slowed up or otherwise.
I like the journey it takes me on. I hope someone else does too.
Teenage FanClub - Mount Everest Michael Head and the Strands - Loaded Man John Frusciante - Ah Yom Azzuro - Solaris Anders Ilar - Ludwijka vIII Reload - Ahn Po- Broken Fingers Bradbury - Sinistrogynic Moebius Disc Telefon Tel Aviv - Your Mouth
I'm 38 today. I'm older than hip-hop... about as old as dub. To celebrate... well work, and another mix for you to do it in your earhole. I'm lame and have to work early tomorrow too... so take a big crack hit for me, if you can.
Cheers!
BTW: I really love this Whitest Boy Alive shit. ErlandOye manages to almost channel Arthur Russell... whom I miss almost daily.

I did a little remix project for my new m8 Taklamakan from Croatia. I took elements of his work entitled "Lighthouse," which is almost chamber music. The original is here:
The results are interesting. Fledgling. Worth a listen? Basically a little bit of tone poetry with some RZA dub and a nice little Kid 606ey tweakage of Frank Mill's "Music Box Dancer." I hear elements of Eno, Cage and a whole lot of Akira Yamaoka (the guy that did the SILENT HILL soundtracks.)
Overall I'm pleased to just be creating some noise again.
Join me in the Great Glass Elevator for today's voyage beyond the ceiling. Watch out for sharp objects, as you peer into the solace and devestation of my cracked existence. Nod head, dance like Vitus, and have fun... if you dare.

I guess all this virtual farming in HARVEST MOON is having an effect on me. This is a particularly crunchy granola earth mix. Lots of new psych and such. I've been a little slow on the post because I'm fucking with some noise remixes for a super secret project... will post results here.

Something's been going on lately. It seems like my mixes are all out of order. When I review them, I wind up moving large chunks of tracks around until I'm satisfied. I don't know if this means I'm all out of whack, or whether I've just developed a more critical ear.
I'm pretty happy with this mix. I don't like the fact that that excellent John Maus song just cuts off all weird at the end. Really... I know it's all cool to claim "lo-fi," but why ruin your tracks with poor production??? If the kids making music in their bedrooms in the 60's and 70's had access to our technology... they wouldn't have released shitty demo quality tracks on cassette. It's cool to respect and emulate them... but use today's available technology.
I love your music Mr. Maus... but it isn't a badge of eccentricity to piss away quality material like that.

The first of my mixes done entirely on new software. Has its rough spots, and is extremely all over the place... but still a sweet little journey into my twisted psyche. I started it totally differently and revamped it - so the cool freak shit would start it off and then it would dwell into moodyness and eventually Meekiness.

I got a message and friend request from a stranger yesterday. He likes some of my old (published) writing. Damn that made me feel good. Almost better would be a comment or two around here... hint hint. Honestly, I don't mind talking to myself... I do it all the time. My blog counter seems jacked the fuck up... so I don't even know if anyone cares.
Therefore... a nice little radio style mix. This one carelessly jumps genres... focusing only on a little mix of music I've been enjoying. The last few crop of mixes were too 'mixtapey' for me possibly. Who knows... as this is quasi-random spooge anyway.
That said: Luga ->Animal Collective ->BFF is a pretty sweet butt blend.
Aren't I supposed to be ranting about how last year sucked??? Don't even know if I will. I lost a lot of innocence and a degree of security and trust I may never gain back... but a year's a year. I'm farming on Wii, listening to music, eating sushi and my thumb works alright. Don't really feel like complaining.

Getting close to the end of my little cushion of backlog. Made this one a week or so ago. Been listening to it personally since. I really enjoy it... although there's some weird transitions in it. Sometimes they work to my ears... sometimes not. That said, it's a bit more adventurous... which is always a good thing.
Happy 2009 to everyone. I'll continue to do this, as it keeps me sane(ish).
