WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED?

In many ways, I am living proof. The strength of the archetypes in Oz amazes me. Nick Chopper lives in all of us. His enchanted Ax renders all of us cold and vacant every now and again.
This mix doesn't sever limbs... but it has it's chilly spots.

MY TATTOO

My tattoo of Jack Pumpkinhead comes from this book. It's now over a decade old.

I realize why my mixes have gotten shorter. My commute to work is shortr now, and that's my main time to listen to music. Funny how things work.

VICTORIA SECRET DRAWLS

Dude at Egg City Radio (http://www.eggcityradio.com/) just discovered the mastery of Robert Earl Davis. Of course, I'm always eager to speak endlessly about the virtues of Screw and his legacy. Sometimes, though... it's better to let the music speak for him.

I upped a grip of great gray tape rips on his comments page (alliteration, HO!)... but I thought for this little blog I'd do a proper mix of some of the better production tracks by Screw and the SUC. I'll not put artists in the tracklist... but featured are 3-2, Sam Houston Boyz, ESG, Keke, HAWK, Mike D, Fat Pat, BAM, Botany Boys and all the usual suspects.

Yep... I slurred and blurred it all for good measure. A few roughish spots, but I did it quick and it's a tribute to Screw, so it shouldn't be perfect.

From track one, this mix will disprove any critical denial of the lyrical skill of Texas street rap. This shit oozes talent and emotion. The simple art of pitching the tracks down releases even more.
Enjoy... I do.

FAST AND BULBOUS, GOT ME?!??!

New mix ist a glorious psychedelic mess. Hot off the trails of watching a Captain Beefheart documentary that may have changed my life. Not much effects (I'm not saying none.) Just some sludgy music to trip balls too.

Me, i really do prefer my music sober. Only then, is it my only hallucinogen.

IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

This is the new mix. Only 33 minutes... but all it really needed. Kinda junky and rocky. Lots of tracks with source limitations (cassette, red krayola etc...) but I think it adds to the fun. There's a boxy feel to it that isn't in many of my mixes.

I spent some time on this, it wasn't slopped up. Luckily, it still has a nice feel to it... almost like a mixtape made for some girl in 1987 or something. That Mall song is super big boobies to me. It blends the best of new indie with a really nice 80s feel... and even some of those Nu Metal sounds I can't stand. I fuckt with it a bit too. I'm impressed. I used this new concept to me called subtlety. Wish the same could be said for the Go Go Power Rangers... which I skull fucked.

I AM A MECHANICAL MAN

Here's the new mix. Took about two days to finish. I labored pretty hard on it and hope it shows. Virtually every track is dubbed... and I went a little overboard with the Fleetwood Mac track. I don't mind, hope you don't neither. The Society of Soul track is a banger... but once you slow and effect it - some of the original recording limitations show through. Kind of gives it a genuine Lee Perry feel. I tried to clean it up... but it sounded shit.

I really like the way this flows.. the transitions are really good... even if a few are weirdish. A lot more intermingling of tracks than usual. The use of exotica and Lynchian film music really accents the Oz theme.

Anyway... here it is. Listen to it and hopefully appreciate it.

THIS HOUSE IS NOT A HOMO

These are shorter mixes, true. Still. I Like the little series. Work, stress and malfunction have me frazzled. I feel alien and distant from myself. It may show in the mix... maybe not.

I especially like how the "Piano Waltz" loses itself. That few seconds of loose cacophony really expresses where I'm at.

My black cat pee loud.

WORK HORSE

Spent about a day tweaking this junt into an intsrtumental for my D-Boy in El Ay. Cut into the little time I have to devote to music, sadly. Tonight I am meeting a cousin who I ain't seen for at least 15 years (more, prolly.) Now I have to shave my head after watching Cutner kill himself on House.

What a life.

Anyway... to keep you coming back... here's the blurred mix I did of the vocal. These gulls are bonafide ghetto princesses... The instrumental, BTW, comes off dark and scary. Me likey how a little echo turns most modern hip hop into detroit techno.

NEW STUFF COMING

Work schedules, life and an interesting disinterest in much of the music I come across has slowed me down (intend: pun.) There should be a new mix tonight or tomorrow... and my boy Patch better have some finished material for me soon... or else.
