NOT MY PLACE IN THE 9 TO 5 WORLD

Being back in New Yor, I'll take this time to thank the pioneers of radio that stimulated my interest in musicgrowing up. Mainly the DJ's of WLIR before it went New Wave format. Specifically Ben Manilla and Vin Scelsia. Both these DJs pioneered a free format style of programming that would bring the NY music scene into the new Millenium 20 years before everyone else.

Manilla's informative "Midnight Special" highlighted the bands of the late 60s - early 70's that would inspire the 80's artists. New York Dolls, Velvets, Stooges, Mott the Hoople, The Seeds, Van Morrison (Troggs,) T.Rex, Roxy Music... As a kid I devoured the biographies and discographies with ferver.

Vin Scelsia's Sundays (and later his IDIOT'S DELIGHT program) blended punk and new wave with their reggae and world beat counterparts... throwing in a heap of jazz and blue grass and even hip hop - the new sound of NY at that time.) His eclectic tastes no doubt forged my own.
